Island of Maui, Hawai’ian Nation
I live among butterflies, and I love sharing about them. The facts about the lives of butterflies are even more magical than the myths.
-
MYTH: The struggle to get free from the chrysalis is what gives the butterfly’s wings the strength to fly.
-
FACT: There really is not a struggle to get free from the chrysalis. With time and in the natural course of things, the edges of the chrysalis soften, and then the butterfly takes a big breath, and the release happens easefully from the already softened exterior.
-
FACT: The strength to fly comes from SUNLIGHT. Butterflies have little solar collectors in their wings, so the light fuels their flight. That’s why you rarely see a butterfly flying at night.
COMING SOON!! a documentary about my butterfly farm.
